This Batman universe really doesn't seem like it has any room for a Robin or nonhuman villains. It's supposed to be dark and lonely.

As for the next movie villain, I think the Riddler is a good bet, since he's pretty popular and I think he'd fit in well with the tone of the films.  Otherwise, I'd personally like to see them do Mr. Freeze, because he was always one of my favorite villains from the cartoons and comics, and Batman & Robin just raped him.  It would be nice to see Nolan do the character justice after that travesty.
*

Same here on Mr. Freeze (I would love to see Patrick Stewart play him) and Poison Ivy as well (B&R ruined her as well with casting Uma Therman to play her). As for a villian to go with the Riddler, I could see them throwing in Catwoman (I'd like to see how Nolan handles her).
The Hutch
Yeah, my friends and I were discussing which villains would work well in this darker Batman universe. We all unanimously decided Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy would not at all work because they are too ridiculous.

Catwoman would work really well, and I would LOVE to see Harley Quinn. I have this great image of Harley going batshit crazy, bombing a bunch of shit for no reason other than to get the attention of The Joker
Viashino_wizard
Harley would've been really good for the next movie, but with no Joker it's going to be hard to make her work.
Joker
Harley Quinn might've worked if Joker was in the sequel, but since he won't be, I don't think they'd be able to properly put her in. Which is quite the shame. As for Catwoman, I don't know if that'd work for the same reasons that Robin probably wouldn't work. I also think it'd be pretty difficult to top Michelle Pfeiffer's performance from Batman Returns. She played the part perfectly.
awesumof2+2
I realize Harley wouldn't work as a main villain, but I think it would be cool to see her making a cameo, maybe displaying a vendetta for putting Joker behind bars but failing miserably.
Yaoi Huntress Earth
Which villians could and could not work...

Bane: If they went with the smart one that's in the comics, he could work as a side villian and be a real test for Batman's physical capabilities.

Black Mask: He's got that noir thing going and the fact that he hates Bruce Wayne more than Batman is an interesting twist. He's got his own semi-cult like following and is a sadistic and ruthless creep, I think it could fit in.

Catwoman: Just start her off as theif and then go for the gradual love interest later on. Heck you can do a movie with these three characters (Catwoman, Black Mask, and Bane).

Clayface: Be a hard one to get to work. The third version (Preston Payne) would definately work the best given his tragic creation and that he has to spread his melting contagion to survive.

I'll come up with more later, but I've got work to do.
Serra
Hmm, Black Mask would be an interesting choice.

Personally, I'd love to see Catwoman and/or Harley. Add a female villain to spice things up (though Catwoman is more of an anti-hero than a villain.)

I'd like to see Clayface. I think with the currect level of CGI technique and sophistication film makers have available, he could be done well.

It would be a CGI nut's dream project. As for some others...

Firefly: Better off as a side villian and keeping the arsonist\mercenary for hire aspect he had in The Batman.

Killer Croc: Like Firefly, he's better off as a side villian. Maybe play up on his elusive, sewer-dwelling side, giving his scene an Aliens-eske game of cat-and-mouse that forces Batman to use his brains and brawn to conquor Croc on his own turf. He'd definately be a fun project for a modern make-up artist handle.

Mad Hatter: He wasn't entirely lame in the animated series, but I can't really see him.

Man-Bat: Batman's answer to the Lizard. Also better off as a side villian, but great fun could be had playing with Batman's conscince and his willingness to take down an ally.

Zsasz: The creepy, self-mutilating serial killer could easily fit in this new, darker series and I think Nolan could really bring out the potiental of the character.

Penguin: Like the Mad Hatter, I just can't see it.

Poison Ivy: A strange one, but she might work if you take her to her roots: a seductive eco-terrorist with super powers.

Hugo Strange: This one could be a lot of fun with all the mind-fuckery and battle of wits between him and Batman.

I've read a few of them every now and then and have gone through Batman encyclopedia.
Master of AFTER
The more I think about it, the more I think The Riddler could work really well for the next major villain. He's definitely one of the more plausible villains, and I'd love to see how he'd be adapted to fit in the Nolanverse version of Batman. The films are so dark that you could really do some interesting things with The Riddler. Instead of obscure brainteasers that force Batman to play Sherlock Holmes, make him set up sadistic death traps that require solving complex puzzles to escape. It could be like Batman meets a slightly less-violent version of Saw.
Kvitne
When I think about the character that way, he really could be bad ass.

Same here. Maybe throw in the idea of him being an attention whore who wishes to be admired for intellect that uses his traps and mind games to prove he's smarter then everyone else.
The Two-One-Five
I would definitely want to see Man-Bat as a villain for the next installment. I mean since everyone pretty much hates Batman and since Man-Bat's actions tend to be blamed on Batman, I could see them using it to further that plot. Though I could only see him being the main villain for only an hour, as he would get boring fast.
Shmeckie
Just wanted to say that I do think Ledger's performance COULD be imitated, if they absolutely had to, they'd just have to find someone who could do it, and still fit. Not easy by any means, but I don't think it's impossible.

Also, since I didn't say it here, the movie was FUCKING AMAZING! Best fucking movie I ever saw, and it totally kicks every "cinematic masterpiece" in history square in the testicles. I don't care what movie comes to mind, the Dark Knight not only outdoes it, but did it with a movie about a comic book character. Spit in their fuckin' EYES!
Spring-Heeled Jack
i don't think they'd replace Ledger, everyone's so touchy these days, i could see the major critics saying something like "its such a slap in the face for ledger and his unforgettable performance, to think he can just be replaced by..."

i think they're just going to say "so the joker was caught and is in jail forever" and move on to the next bad guy. Has anyone noticed how smaller and more penguin-like Danny Devito has gotten since Batman Forever? i smell a reprise...
Kvitne
I think Philip Seymour Hoffman, the guy the rumors are talking about, would make a better Penguin. Devito was too cartoony a Penguin for the Nolanverse Batman.

OMG luk at this u guys its totally real n everything!!!

Aside from the rather boring choice in font types, that is extremely badass for a fan-made poster.

Agreed, thought I do wonder if they will make him the main villain. And if so, how will he be handled?
Jabberwocky
i just went and saw it. i... really wasn't going to, mostly because there's no harley, and harley quinn is like my FAVORITE THING EVER. :[ apparently she's TOO AWESOME for the nolanverse.

i wish two-face would have been a villain for more than um, twenty minutes. and like, why was the scarecrow in it for THREE SECONDS? was there a POINT to that? i was like oh man the scarecrow and then... he never came back. like if they just randomly showed the penguin getting mcdonalds or some other trivial thing WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A MAJOR VILLAIN LIKE, AN EXTRA

i mean, it's not like a huge deal, i just kept expecting the scarecrow to pop back up D8 ?????

it was alright, i guess. i'm glad stupid rachel is gone. heath ledger made a better joker than i thought he would.
The Hutch
By the way, on Rachel...

Am I the only person in the whole fucking world who does not find Maggie Gyllenhaal attractive? For fuck's sake, she's on my list of people I wish I'd never seen naked!

Other people in that list?

Sandra Oh, Judie Dench, Michael Douglas
Kvitne
Yeah, Katie Holmes is a much hotter Rachel.

So you would like to see Rosie O'Donnell (moar liek Rosie Macdonald, amirite?) naked? You discuss me.
Viashino_wizard
No, see, it's a list of people he HAS seen naked and wished he hadn't.
Joker
Despite her universally-agreed amazingness, Harley Quinn would've seemed a bit out of place in The Dark Knight. I think they were trying to portray Joker as an absolute loner with dime-a-dozen henchmen that he generally didn't care about. I think they could've made her fit in beautifully in a sequel, had Heath Ledger not passed away.

I did like Scarecrow's cameo, as he was my favorite part of Batman Begins, though I wonder if DC is gonna start taking the Marvel movie route of throwing random characters in as cameos.
Ritz Dijuto
Went and saw it at the IMAX a little while ago, not sure when since after seeing it time ceased to matter.

I was hooked from the very first moment.

I want to go see it again, mostly because I didn't get to watch it in complete rivetted silence since for some silly reason we brought my one-year-old half bother (erh, I mean brother) along.

And now, I'm off to subtly suggest (beg) my grandmum to take me to see it again.
Jabberwocky
i wouldn't have a problem with a replacement joker. adrien brody wanted the role, i think that'd be awesome. or like... johnny depp--i know he's in everything but the nolanverse joker was sort of like if willy wonka and sweeney todd fused together. i don't get why people are so sensitive. :\ the show must go on etc.

i guess i was expecting something because of how the scarecrow was... tasered out of batman begins, lolwat.

eurgh rachel. 8| batman did not need a mary sue girlfriend and i was irritated by how huge of a role she played in furthering the plot. maggie gyldjsfjssk has a chubby chipmunk face, and the other rachel was on dawson's creek. there is just nothing redeemable about her. XD
Kvitne
I'm trying to imagine a cross between Willy Wonka and Sweeny Todd and... no, nope. My brain just imploded.

Oh and lulz:

Am I the only person who doesn't think Maggie Gyllenhal is ugly? She's not that bad to look at, really.
Spring-Heeled Jack
I'd hit that. Maggie Gyllenhal i mean.

and Adrian Brody? as joker? i think that would have sucked.
Jabberwocky
i think he's like, the hottest human being on earth, so i don't rly care. XD

She's cute, but in a kinda snobby way. She reminds me of this pretty girl that sat next to me in junior high science class that hated me. Nice to look at, but irritating as all hell to actually talk to.
