The Dark Knight trailer is up -- http://www.atasteforthetheatrical.com

I'd start a real topic if I wasn't so distracted by hunger!

I don't know about you folks, but I am pumped for this shit! Batman Begins remains my all-time favorite live-action super hero movie, and it looks as though the sequel might actually not destroy all good memories I have of the first film. That sure would be a nice change of pace for this genre. (Fuck you, Sam Raimi! Fuck you, old man!)

I guess my only complaint with the otherwise sweet-ass trailer is that it seems to focus way more on the Joker than anything else. That's fine by me if it's just to show off the new villain, but I hope the movie itself has a bit more, uh, Batman.
Shmeckie
This movie looks fuckin' amazing. I'm in Moab's camp, that Batman Begins was a movie so fucking good it made me wanna rip my eyes out, since they had just peaked. This movie makes me so damn glad I didn't! And this Joker just may be better than Jack Nicholson's!
Sway
Yes, I agree with the above sentiments. Begins is my favorite superhero movie as well, and The Dark Knight is gonna kick ass, and Chris Nolan is amazing, etc. Begins is the only superhero move in existence that does not have any parts I can point to and say, "Augh, why did they put that in?!"

From what I've heard, the movie will focus mostly on Bruce/Batman and Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart), and the trailer is meant to just get audiences excited about the Joker. It's not gonna be like Batman '89. In fact, I have to say, the Burton movies have not held up well at all, IMO, including Nicholson's Joker, but that's probably for another time in another topic. This Joker looks scary as shit and badass, and this summer is way too far away.
Kuria
I wasn't expecting to see Heath Ledger pull off a good Joker, seeing as the only movie I saw him in was Brokeback and Joker's not exactly a gay cowboy, but from what little I can tell from the trailer is I shouldn't have worried.

July 18th cannot come soon enough.
Yaoi Huntress Earth
God, that looks sweet. I love how ragged and deranged Ledger's Joker looks and with Harvey Dent, if they keep it to one villian (I hate it when supero hero movies put too many villians in it) we could see Two-Face in the next one (I'd love to see how they design him.)
Shmeckie
Before anyone scoffs at a two-villain thing in Dark Knight (which is understandable, seeing as how Superhero movies tend to jade us on that) just remember this; Batman Begins: Ra's al Ghoul and Scarecrow.

Pulled it off once...
TigerEyes
I really can't wait for this movie. Heck, I've seen Batman Begins at least three or four times and I still think it's amazing. The trailer for this next movie looks extremely promising, and I think they would probably be able to pull off two villains again if that's what they're going for. Like Shmeckie said, it worked in the first movie.
Yaoi Huntress Earth
I don't mind if it's two, but when they're going for three or such, it starts getting over done.
Master of AFTER
Yeah, I really hate it when they cram too many villains into this kind of movie. It just makes the script overcrowded and actually detracts from each villain's presence in the movie... It's a rookie mistake that many well-known writers/directors unfortunately still make late into their careers. (Fuck you, Sam Raimi! Fuck you, old man!)

As for multiple villains in this installment of the Batman franchise, Cillian Murphy is coming back to reprise his role as the Scarecrow, so that's at least two villains for The Dark Knight right there. It's possible he may only make a brief cameo, though... I think they're probably just having him in the film to tie up loose ends more than anything.
Serra
Wow that movie looks awesome... I was also surprised when they announced that Heath was going to play the Joker, but he seems to be doing it well.
Don Kanonji
I think Ledger's Joker is looking better than Jack Nicholson's, honestly. He seems more genuinely insane and menacing. Nicholson was crazy, but not that scary.

I love Tim Burton, but I don't think his batman movies have aged all that well, all things considred. These new batman movies are just what the franchise needed to stay alive.
DarkFairyYume
I came.

Did you guys hear the bad news, Heath Ledger (Joker's actor) is dead: http://omg.yahoo.com/heath-ledger-found-de...n-nyc/news/5898 Luckily, it won't affect the film since it's already complete.
Sway
I am fairly sure Heath was supposed to be in the third movie as well, though. Not to mention he was one of the finest actors of his generation. sad.gif
Homer DJW
He was a pretty good guy. Except for broke back mountain, but thats more the writers fault.

RIP.
Kuria
Brokeback was a good movie, but it was VERY slow.

It was odd, hearing Heath had died. I thought people were screwin' with me, but then it was plastered all over the news.
TigerEyes
Yeah, I was the same way. I heard some people talking about it, but I didn't think they were serious until I read these posts.

Rest in peace, Heath. sad.gif

Looks pretty cool. I like that they're going with a very expressionistic style, since I think it suits Batman well. As long as it doesn't get too expressionistic to the point of being absurd as a means of being "artsy", I think this should turn out well.
Sway
I have to admit I'm a little miffed at a few of the designs that portray Bruce Wayne with certain stereotypical anime design staples, specifically the dainty jawline, but overall the aesthetic is really cool and it appears that it will be able to expand the Nolan universe into places it couldn't realistically go with live action, so hey.
Master of AFTER
New trailer for Gotham Knight, folks! This looks so cool... And if you'll notice, Batman's being voiced by none other than Kevin Conroy, the same VA who made sure everything Batman ever said sounded totally badass in The Animated Series! The Terror Threat of AWESOME just went up to red!

EDIT: Oh shit, I forgot about this topic... Oh well.

That's wonderful. This is going to be badass for sure.
Sway
Err... there's a new Dark Knight trailer out, too.
Master of AFTER
Post a link to it in the Batman anime topic. The irony will be too perfect!
Sway
Good plan.

I saw The Dark Knight today. This movie can be described in one word: Epic.

I love the hell out of this movie. It was better than I expected it to be. I think this movie is just as awesome as the movies in the Matrix Trilogy! They had better fucking make a sequel to this thing.

The Joker is fucking insane. He is one of the coolest villains I've ever seen. This Joker must be based on a comic book version of himself because he was never this demented or evil in any media I've seen him in before...
Yaoi Fairy
Gamer just totally thrashed any and all doubts I had about Dark Night. My buddy was all, "Oh, they got the dumbest people to play the roles. The actors are poor choices it's all hype probably not that great blah blah"

Turns out she just has shit taste in anything, but that should be expected from someone who thinks that FLCL and Neon Genesis Evangelion are the greatest forms of animated media ever made ever.
The Two-One-Five
If they do make a sequel, I do wonder what they will do about the Joker since he wasn't killed on screen and Heath Ledger is now dead. Though I do hope they bring the Riddler seeing as he's my second favorite Batman villain.
Yaoi Fairy
Heath Ledger is dead? ohmy.gif
*never pays attention to news*

I just saw the Dark Knight. It kicks so much ass, ASS DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE!

...

Are you--are you kidding me? He's been dead since March. There was a huge media circus. Everyone was talking about it. Fred Phelps organized an anti-gay protest at his funeral. You seriously didn't know anything about this?
Mysty
Sh! You'll spoil the plot for YF!

It does make me wonder what they'll do about Joker in future movies in this particular Batman universe, though. There might be some really good actors that aren't willing to step up because of being paranoid or something.

Hollywood people are weird.
Al_Cone
I think Heath Ledger gave the kind of performance that to recast the character, and to have the replacement try to emulate Ledger's performance, would diminish it somehow. They'll probably retire the Joker.
Mysty
Or maybe they'll have him locked-up in Arkham and focus on Twoface? Or actually make a good movie out of Poison Ivy this time? Joker is the most popular villian, yeah, but there are plenty of them.
The Two-One-Five
But the Riddler? He is too cool to skip over.
Al_Cone
Two-Face is dead though. I can see them bringing in the Riddler, but Poison Ivy doesn't strike me as fitting in with the darker, grittier Batman that they've propagated.
The Two-One-Five
Or so it seems

Maybe Man Bat to tie in with the theme they had at the end
Al_Cone
Bane! What about Bane? The man who broke the bat? I can see 'em making a movie out of that.

And yes, Two-Face is dead. He's gotta be.
Mysty
The last thing I remember about Two-Face is that they left him on the rooftop (very vague spoiler). Why is it that he's "gotta" be dead?

I can see them fitting in Poison Ivy, though. It'd be easier than finding an excuse to put Robin in, at any rate.
The Two-One-Five
Man Bat is cooler, though. Bane isn't smart enough to follow the Joker.

Riddler has always been cool, he's like the most egotistical of the lot.

Ivy is to Al Goreish and Mr Freeze is the same
Mysty
What about Catwoman or The Penguin?

I would laugh if they put Penguin in. No matter how serious they make him, he'd still be a man-penguin, and you can't not find that funny.
The Two-One-Five
I rather liked Danny Devito as Penguin, he fit the role perfectly.

And Catwoman never receives any love in live action adaptions, so I don't expect much.

Edit: Ironically, I is watching Happy Feet right now with my little cousins
Mysty
It kind of makes me sad; I haven't seen many places that actually do female villians well.

Well, then, what about Batzarro or Clayface? I was hoping Harley Quinn would be in, but with Joker likely to be MIA, there wouldn't be much place for her. Some of the people introduced in the Arkham comics would be interesting, though.
Shmeckie
A little note, people...

NOT ALL OF US HAVE SEEN THE DARK KNIGHT! NO SPOILERS ASSHOLES!
Arc Baltic
You are also forgetting about Redclaw, the Mad Hatter, Killer Croc and probably more villains Batman could pull from. Honestly, Batman has so many good villains to choose from we could see Batman movies to the end of time.

Yeah... I didn't know.
I'm sorry, I don't pay attention to Hollywood. Like I said- I don't watch the news or anything. I just... I never heard. :/ No one told me.
Kvitne
Although they tackled Deadshot in the Gotham Knight mini-movies, I think he'd be a cool villain. I don't think they could make as good of a movie with him though.

Clayface is pretty badass, as is the Riddler. I'm not sure whether they can possibly top the Joker though. He's by far the best villain in the Batman universe.
Yaoi Fairy
Goin' to see Dark Knight today. smile.gif Can't wait. If what you all say is true, this will be badass.
It's good that they kept the Joker truly insane and twisted, because that is what made him so awesome. Sure, he was crazy in the kids' shows, but really toned down. It'll be nice to see him as a homicidal maniac.

Just a few questions- how awesome were the fight scenes? Were they too fast to follow? Was there too much going on? We all know that Batman has no super powers, so did he do anything that seemed superhuman? And was Batman all angsty during the movie? I certainly hope not.
awesumof2+2
I thought Dark Knight had great action. I guess some of it was a little fast, but generally very well done. In this movie Batman has several cool new gadgets and a whole new suit. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that Batman wasn't too angsty. Two-face sort of covered that, but in a cool way.
Yaoi Fairy
Well, Two Face is allowed to be angsty and pissed, since he's been horribly disfigured and it messed EVERYTHING up, and his life turned out ultimately worse. Batman lost his parents and all, but it turned out to be for the better... I guess.
