Taking time out of my busy schedule of drinking and laying face-down on the floor, I've managed to put together another update for y'all to enjoy. I had quite a bit of help with this particular update thanks to Shmeckie, who has graced us all with another new installment of Comic Release. Boy, what a guy!
If you've already read through the new content, then I hope you enjoyed it more than I enjoyed reading through that godawful comic in preparation for writing my own portions of the review. Also, check out this sweet
bonus image that Cody sent in for the article, that I sadly didn't have room to include:
Click to view attachmentMany critics of Megatokyo claim that Fred Gallagher draws all his women with the same face. Fans of Megatokyo say this isn't true. You make the call. (And only two of these faces belong to the same character. Can you spot which ones?)Oh Fred, will you ever learn?

Ha ha ha!
(Seriously though dude, fucking read some of those 'How to Draw Manga' books you sell on your site sometime.)

I must say, as awesome as my article is, Alex's additions make it ten times more fucking awesome. Like SSJ4 Goku and Vegeta, combining to make some overly powerful comedy juggernaut who's overpowered special attacks destroy all that is shitty!
...I gotta lay off the BT2...

Haha, yeah, that was pretty good. It was an entertaining look at not only a lot of common criticisms of Megatokyo, but a few interesting ones not a lot of people think about as well. And nice bonus page as well, MoA. Hopefully, you will be sued posthaste for our amusement.
Also,

Virtually all he draws is sad, apathetic, bored-looking girls. At first, I thought it was some stylistic thing. Now, I think it's because that's all he knows women to look like, from experience.

That was rad ^10. Megatokyo is the webcomic equivalent of foot odor.
lol @ bonuspage. Keep close surveilance or Mr. Gallagher will forcibly cause your posterior to imbibe a bullet lololol see what I did there with my sophisticated language.
Soooo yeh. Word.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! Here's another little piece of bonus material related to the article that I came up with:
Click to view attachmentSince that's got the site's address on it, feel free to use it wherever you want. Like, for instance, the Megatokyo forums.

It's great to see another Comic Release. I've been lucky to have never read Megatokyo until you brought it up.
-I was also thinking that it looked like all the girls had down's syndrome. Say, have you noticed that it looks like Piro has pigtails (especally in the early strips when they show front views of his face)?
-I can totally relate to how you feel about undeserving people getting all the fame and attention. (It's the reason I hate Avril Lavine.) Then again, when you think about it, if you look at their fans, is that the kind of fame you really want?

Another funny update. Have to say I've never read Megatokyo so some of the jokes were lost on me but I can appreciate how much of a douchebag Fred Gallagher is and I don't need to read this webcomic to be confused and angry when it's pointed out how much merchandise this shit actually has. Also, the fact he's a closet pedo doesn't help much.

I was hoping from the bottom of my heart that this comic would get the ol' "Comic Release" treatment one of these days. The articles went above and beyond my expectations, though, and I'm grateful for it. I think I've read a couple pages of this comic at most (a friend of mine in high school liked it...don't know why), and I don't think I was prepared for all the terrible things this comic really has to offer. It's so nice to see all its faults finally brought out into the open.
And I feel really, REALLY sorry for Gallagher's wife.
Shmeckie
Mar 7 2007, 09:26 PM
Because she's married to Gallagher, or because she looks like God stpped trying about half way through?
And yes, I know it's kind of a low blow to go after the guy's wife, but since he had no problem injecting her into his comic, as well as posting that life-scarring wedding photo, he made her fair game. Plus, y'know, I hate everyone, and have no problem going for the low blows.

I feel sorry for her because she married him. I don't have any idea what she looks like. I don't really care that you insulted her though; if she knows that he inserted her into that horrible webcomic and didn't do anything about it (or if she's OK with it, which would make it worse), then she probably deserves it.
I should probably clarify that if she knew what she was getting into when she married him (especially with his fondness for kiddy porn...argh...), I don't feel sorry for her in the slightest. I'm hopelessly optimistic though, so unless someone knows her feelings on these matters, I'm going to imagine that she's completely in the dark.
*Edit - Ha ha... OK, I found out
what they look like.

He looks like John Hodgman trying to get an emo look going, and then just wearing a terrible shirt for the hell of it.

Somehow, I never pictured Gallagher as being that old (or that doughy, although the reality of the situation in that department would surprise anyone)... I mean shit dude, I always kinda pictured him as some guy who started that comic in college or something, then went off and got married and just kept drawing it because the fans were giving him ego masturbation or whatever. But that guy is, like, middle-aged. All that bullshit in Megatokyo with him and Rodney Caston going on crazy adventures and whatnot as teenage boys now seems more pathetic than ever. And I'm talking like a thousand times more pathetic.

Mar 7 2007, 11:59 PM
Haha, yeah! Can't believe I forgot how old he is! Woulda made for some good ribbings... I will say, however, that his schtick with a Japanese schoolgirl being in love with him in Megatokyo seems very creepy now, and the lolicon porn stuff just makes him out-and-out frightening. I'll be keeping my cousin's daughter far away from this man.
Y'know, awhile back, someone asked me if I really would talk to people like I do in person, to their face. With people like that being the targets of my mean-ass humor, I can safely say "yes. In fact, I'd prefer it". And I do.

According to my research, he started the comic when he was 31.

Well on Wikipedia it said he was born in '69 and started the comic in August of 2000. Wikipedia isn't always the most reliable source, but it's usually quite reliable on the supernerdy stuff.

This topic has made me feel so great about myself! Thanks, everyone! Though I remember Mrs. Gallagher being scarier looking. Might've been that wedding photo, or my own habit of remembering things cartoonishly. Ah, well, screw it.
Gallagher himself, though... Man, does he look creepy. I mean, holy shit, he looks like the bad guy of the week on an episode of Law & Order: SVU. And the lolita complex doesn't help that image, either...

Thanks for the link Alex, it was the girlfriend who got it down to a foo fighters song. I worked out the rest.
