Dec 19 2007, 06:51 PMQUOTE (Sway @ Dec 17 2007, 09:30 AM) The Dark Knight trailer is up -- http://www.atasteforthetheatrical.com I'd start a real topic if I wasn't so distracted by hunger! ^ Rescued from The Official Spam Topic. I don't know about you folks, but I am pumped for this shit! Batman Begins remains my all-time favorite live-action super hero movie, and it looks as though the sequel might actually not destroy all good memories I have of the first film. That sure would be a nice change of pace for this genre. (Fuck you, Sam Raimi! Fuck you, old man!) I guess my only complaint with the otherwise sweet-ass trailer is that it seems to focus way more on the Joker than anything else. That's fine by me if it's just to show off the new villain, but I hope the movie itself has a bit more, uh, Batman. -------------------- ![]() You needn't worry about anything. This movie looks fuckin' amazing. I'm in Moab's camp, that Batman Begins was a movie so fucking good it made me wanna rip my eyes out, since they had just peaked. This movie makes me so damn glad I didn't! And this Joker just may be better than Jack Nicholson's!

Yes, I agree with the above sentiments. Begins is my favorite superhero movie as well, and The Dark Knight is gonna kick ass, and Chris Nolan is amazing, etc. Begins is the only superhero move in existence that does not have any parts I can point to and say, "Augh, why did they put that in?!"
From what I've heard, the movie will focus mostly on Bruce/Batman and Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart), and the trailer is meant to just get audiences excited about the Joker. It's not gonna be like Batman '89. In fact, I have to say, the Burton movies have not held up well at all, IMO, including Nicholson's Joker, but that's probably for another time in another topic. This Joker looks scary as shit and badass, and this summer is way too far away. |

I wasn't expecting to see Heath Ledger pull off a good Joker, seeing as the only movie I saw him in was Brokeback and Joker's not exactly a gay cowboy, but from what little I can tell from the trailer is I shouldn't have worried.
July 18th cannot come soon enough. -------------------- |

God, that looks sweet. I love how ragged and deranged Ledger's Joker looks and with Harvey Dent, if they keep it to one villian (I hate it when supero hero movies put too many villians in it) we could see Two-Face in the next one (I'd love to see how they design him.)

Before anyone scoffs at a two-villain thing in Dark Knight (which is understandable, seeing as how Superhero movies tend to jade us on that) just remember this; Batman Begins: Ra's al Ghoul and Scarecrow.
Pulled it off once... -------------------- |

I really can't wait for this movie. Heck, I've seen Batman Begins at least three or four times and I still think it's amazing. The trailer for this next movie looks extremely promising, and I think they would probably be able to pull off two villains again if that's what they're going for. Like Shmeckie said, it worked in the first movie.

I don't mind if it's two, but when they're going for three or such, it starts getting over done.

Yeah, I really hate it when they cram too many villains into this kind of movie. It just makes the script overcrowded and actually detracts from each villain's presence in the movie... It's a rookie mistake that many well-known writers/directors unfortunately still make late into their careers. (Fuck you, Sam Raimi! Fuck you, old man!)
As for multiple villains in this installment of the Batman franchise, Cillian Murphy is coming back to reprise his role as the Scarecrow, so that's at least two villains for The Dark Knight right there. It's possible he may only make a brief cameo, though... I think they're probably just having him in the film to tie up loose ends more than anything. -------------------- ![]() You needn't worry about anything. Wow that movie looks awesome... I was also surprised when they announced that Heath was going to play the Joker, but he seems to be doing it well.

I think Ledger's Joker is looking better than Jack Nicholson's, honestly. He seems more genuinely insane and menacing. Nicholson was crazy, but not that scary.
I love Tim Burton, but I don't think his batman movies have aged all that well, all things considred. These new batman movies are just what the franchise needed to stay alive. |

Did you guys hear the bad news, Heath Ledger (Joker's actor) is dead: http://omg.yahoo.com/heath-ledger-found-de...n-nyc/news/5898 Luckily, it won't affect the film since it's already complete.

I am fairly sure Heath was supposed to be in the third movie as well, though. Not to mention he was one of the finest actors of his generation.

Brokeback was a good movie, but it was VERY slow.
It was odd, hearing Heath had died. I thought people were screwin' with me, but then it was plastered all over the news. -------------------- |

Yeah, I was the same way. I heard some people talking about it, but I didn't think they were serious until I read these posts.

Looks pretty cool. I like that they're going with a very expressionistic style, since I think it suits Batman well. As long as it doesn't get too expressionistic to the point of being absurd as a means of being "artsy", I think this should turn out well.

I have to admit I'm a little miffed at a few of the designs that portray Bruce Wayne with certain stereotypical anime design staples, specifically the dainty jawline, but overall the aesthetic is really cool and it appears that it will be able to expand the Nolan universe into places it couldn't realistically go with live action, so hey.
