QUOTE (Master of AFTER @ Apr 7 2012, 05:37 AM) *
Watching DBZ and Gundam Wing on Toonami is how I first got interested in anime, and the block introduced me to a bunch of great series that eventually made their way into my collection. The influence that nostalgia has on my opinion of Toonami is undeniable, but I think it could still find an audience today. As I recall, a lot of people were pretty baffled when it first went off the air, since the promos were all very popular and most of the shows airing during the block were still getting good ratings. After the reception they got for that one-night revival, I think it would be strange if the network heads didn't see the logic in bringing it back.

We're talking about the same CEO that thinks it's a good idea to keep making live-action shit even when it has god-awful ratings. I have no idea why the stockholders haven't gotten rid of him yet.

See folks, it's just like Bill Clinton said. If something doesn't go your way just keep complaing and complaing and eventually everything will work out for you.

Marge: That sounds like a very lousy lesson.

Clinton: Well ma'am, I'm a pretty lousy president.

In all seriousness, yay! Toonami's coming back! I remember catching bits of it at my Grandma's house. And with Cartoon Network coming to Canada soon that means I'll get to watch its return too! SWEET! Best April Fools Ever.

I'd love to have it back. Classic anime that I loved to watch, add some new ones that are awesome. I'd feel like a kid again.

Being Canadian and having no such thing as Cartoon Network in Canada I automatically spite all of you for having shit I never had in my childhood.

I mean, fuck, YTV and Teletoon only repeated Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors while YOU SHITS got Tenchi Muyo and Cowboy Bebop on television.

Haha damn, man. You have my sympathies.

Toonami helped make anime semi-mainstream here in the west in the first place. We were getting bombarded by good shit from Toonami back in the day. Dragonball, Tenchi, Outlaw Star, you name it.

If memory serves me right. didn't they air Cardcaptors at one point.

By which I mean the awful, 4Kids-like, Nelvana-edited version of Cardcaptor Sakura?

Because that was kind of a guilty pleasure of mine back when.

Before? I vaguely remember watching cartoons on Fox with shows like with that one animated dad doing stuff with his more animated kid and some 3D robot shit. I don't remember much. Either way, I'm pretty damn sure it came before fucking Fox Box.

Toonami did indeed air Cardcaptors. I still remember the gravelly, masculine voice of Peter Cullen advertising the hell out of it.

Too bad the show sucked. I tried my best to get interested in it, but it just never caught on. Much preferred Tenchi or Dragon Ball.

I didn't like the later Toonami stuff very much. Stopped watching it at its half-life. When they fucked-up Tom's design.

Are you implying that the judgement of someone who tried to advocate dick-girl porn while loafing in the passenger seat of my weathered down, '99 Dodge Intrepid is supposed to affect me? Because that's just silly.

But yeah, I remember liking that show in between episodes of Pokemon when it aired on KidsWB. To its credit, it was some of the better Canadian dubbing at the time and I really liked seeing all the cards/powers featured on every episode.

From what I understand, the greatest "sin" of that dub was editing it around so that Lee was more of a main character than a supporter giving Sakura a little push of help when need be. It supposedly done to make the show more appealing to boys, and if my dedication was any indication, it worked, not that I knew any differently.

I learn something new everyday.

Never watched Toonami when it was on, no idea why. I can't remember for the life of me what aired on Nick during that time slot but it couldn't have been as good as that stuff.

Supposedly there was a dub that made Lee the main character and pretended Sakura was just a side character.

To be honest, I never actually saw that one I think because as I recall Sakura was front and center in every episode. So I was a bit confused at that claim.

Although I know for a fact the lesbian undertones were taken out. For obvious reasons.

Oh, yeah, sure, lie to the people and ruin my good name, why don'tcha.

I never advocated dick-girl porn. I said I couldn't understand the point of it unless it was dickgirl-on-girl, and that even then, that was gross. Please don't make me look like a fucking freak for the purposes of a joke plzkthx

In any case, I still remember getting the biggest tingle when FUNimation both announced they picked up One Piece and when the first episode aired, couldn't pull my eyes away from any article on AnimeNewsNetwork that even remotely brought up the news.

Even better when Sonny Strait was announced as Usopp, since he had been on my "dream cast" ever since the 4kids dub.
