Jan 26 2012, 08:15 PMNooo, now people know I have no friends, MoA. And it looks like I've got a new shade of red. EDIT: Fk that color. I like the darker red. It is a little hard to read, but fuck it. Well, I can see the new font options are a big hit. Only time will tell whether this is a good thing or the beginning of the end for this community...
Things are coming along quite nicely behind the scenes. 100% of the old post and personal message content has been rebuilt and optimized, so everything should display correctly now. We've also made a few more adjustments to the color scheme of the board in a couple areas for both improved legibility and aesthetic appeal. Oh, and the layout for polls has been fixed as well. Speaking of polls, I didn't bother mentioning this in the initial post, but I guess it's worth quickly noting that the poll creation screen is totally new. Instead of clicking on a separate "Add Poll" button on the topic view screen, polls can now be automatically added to any new thread upon its creation by clicking on "Poll Options" under the topic title and description fields. From there, the process of making a poll is so intuitive that I doubt I need to explain it (adding questions is a hell of a lot simpler and easier than it was before). Regular members can also add polls to any existing thread they start within 48 hours of creating it. Something I'd like to get a little member feedback on is the new automatic resizing feature for user-posted images. You'll notice that any images you post which exceed certain dimensions are now automatically resized to fit inside the page view window and come complete with a link to view the full-sized original image in a new window. How do you guys feel about this feature? Do you like it better this way, or would you prefer to always see images in all their full-sized majesty, even if they sometimes stretch the page? -------------------- ![]() You needn't worry about anything. Simply trust what you see, obey the law, keep your emotions in check, and wait for science to find the answers to your problems. And now, let's answer some questions!
Oh we do get new colors Hmm what should I use for my mocks from now on? Yes I use only purple Yes I actually care about this Eh whatever Okay, this one isn't actually a question, but I would like to quickly point out that since the board now uses hexadecimal code for font colors right there in the tags, it's way easier to make your text any color you want (or at least any color within the 16,777,216 possible combinations hex code allows). I just noticed that there doesn't seem to be any way to add attachments. Am I missing something obvious? I'm assuming this is an issue with the version of Chrome you're using or some kind of plugin or something, especially since it shows up when you switch to IE. I'll take another look at the board's setup for attachment privileges, but off the top of my head I have no idea why it wouldn't display the attachment options on any browser. Any other Chrome users having this problem? Why are Max's and Kirby's little person things next to their names orange? Just wondering. Mine is orange too. Huh. The icons are shown in full color when someone is logged in and become grayed out when they leave or their session expires. The icons are a replacement for the old "On" buttons that used to show up under a user's post info, basically. I'm actually not in love with the design of the current icons and I'll probably make my own at some point... That's a ways down there on my list of priorities, though. -------------------- ![]() You needn't worry about anything. Jan 27 2012, 06:30 AMWhat're the certain dimensions that would cause it to be resized? I assume when it would stretch the page it would be resized? Let me get back to you with the specifics on that... In the meantime, browse through the funny images thread to get a rough idea of how large an image has to be before it gets resized. -------------------- ![]() You needn't worry about anything. From what I saw in a few image threads, the resizing looks totally reasonable and any pictures that get shrinked are still 100% legible.
I vote to keep the feature. |

I myself like the picture resizing. It's like a safety net so no one's hit with "THE PHOTO'S TOO BIG YOU NOOB".
I also find it amusing that people are only now using the different fonts. XD It will take a while to memorize the color tags, but that's something I'll get used to. Jan 27 2012, 12:47 PMAny other Chrome users having this problem? Nope, it's working fine on version 16.0.912.77 m for me. I'm guessing it's an extension if anything. Also, I'l all for the automatic resizing. -------------------- You've heard of the Sierra Madre Casino. We all have, the legend, the curses. Mark me down as another member who likes the picture resizing. Makes everything nice and uniform, but allows us to still see the full-size image if we like.
The forum update is looking great, MoA! You and Req did a fantastic job keeping the forum looking mostly like it always did, while adding some great features that make the overall experience even more enjoyable than it was before. It's really quite understated and elegant. I love it. However, if the use of comic sans continues too much longer I may put my fist through my computer screen. |

I think I can go ahead and assume the general consensus is that image resizing is a feature you guys want to keep, correct? I suppose it does making viewing image-heavy threads a little easier, especially for folks with lower screen resolutions.
Many thanks for all the supportive comments! Even after all the work we've put into customizing the forum, Requiem and I are still in the process of adding new things and fine-tuning some features. We've recently resolved an issue with guests only seeing attached images as download links (they should appear as normal images now), plus Requiem has strengthened our security with some additional measures to prevent bots from creating accounts. We've made some minor improvements to the registration screen as well. Next up on the agenda is changing the dimensions of the video player to better suit widescreen videos, adding a couple new profile options, and redesigning the topic view screen so members with usernames longer than 16 characters no longer have their names cut off. -------------------- ![]() You needn't worry about anything. Yeah, I really like the image resizing feature. Some of the image-heavy threads loaded slower before, and now they load much faster.
