I already mentioned it in the Pokemon topic, but Pokemon Blue was the first videogame I ever owned, back when I was still a tween. I've been replaying a lot of my old pokemon games recently (FireRed, Pearl and HeartGold, if you care) as well as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. With Black and White coming out soon, I've gotten the urge to go back to where it began for me: Pokemon Blue. And because I'm lonely and have no life, I'm going to share the experience with you guys as a screenshot Let's Play.
I figure, hell, if The Hutch can do it, I can probably pull it off. Of course, I'm not just here to revisit Pokemon Blue; I'm here to fucking master it. I'm going to up the ante by doing this as a Nuzlocke run. For those who don't know, a Nuzlocke run is basically a self-imposed hardcore mode (hence the thread title). Here are the rules I'll be using: QUOTE (RULES) 1) If a pokemon faints, it's dead and gets permanently boxed. No reviving via Pokecenter or items. 2) I can only catch the first non-duplicate pokemon I encounter in each route or area. If it faints, tough beans. Event pokemon (i.e. legendaries, Eevee, in-game trades, etc.) don't count towards this limit. 3) Each quarter of the Safari Zone counts as a separate area for this purpose. 4) All pokemon must be nicknamed. 5) No duplicates. If I catch a Spearow and it faints, I can never have another Spearow. All members of an evolutionary line count as one pokemon, so if I catch a Rattata, I can't catch a Raticate later. 6) Set Battle mode. 7) If my party wipes, it's game over. 8) The run is complete once I've defeated my rival and become Champion of Kanto. Now that that's out of the way, it's time for some COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION! I'm letting you guys pick three things: 1) The starter I choose 2) The name of my rival 3) The naming theme I'll be using (like 'Musicians', 'Anime Characters', 'Food', etc.) You can give one suggestion for each category (including support for someone else's suggestion), and I'll pick the ones that have the most support and/or I like best. HEAVEN OR HELL! DUEL 1, LET'S ROCK! Part 1 - Let's Get Started Part 2 - Running Errands Part 3 - Catching Pokemon Part 4 - Viridian Forest Part 5 - Vs. Brock Part 6 - Mt. Moon (Part 1, 2, 3) Part 7 - Battle on the Big Bridge Part 8 - I Regret Nothing Part 9 - He's a Maniac, Manica on the Floor Part 10 - Vs. Ooh, this sounds exciting!
For your starter, it sorta depends on how hard you want to make it. Bulbasaur will let you fucking coast through the early game, Squirtle is a decent choice all around, and Charmander may or may not get you killed for the first few badges. But since I'm going by personal bias here and not something as logical as a strategy, I'd say pick Bulbasaur, since it was my first starter. As for theme naming, the nerd in me is gonna have to go with either RPG characters or famous musicians. No limits on either category. I'm not too sure about a good rival name, though. That one I'll have to think about. Edit: Oh, you should name your rival Knives! The Trigun fan within me demands it! Edit two: TL;DR : 1. Bulbasaur 2. Knives 3.
