Forum Upgrade Complete! Options

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the new and improved Project AFTER Forums! The boards are now running IPB 2.3.6, along with a host of brand new customizations and exclusive features sure to twirl your moustaches.

While browsing the forums, you'll notice a variety of minor changes designed to enhance your posting experience. While most aspects of the boards function largely the same as they did prior to the upgrade, there are a few areas where you'll encounter more significant differences:

• Member Profiles are now far more robust in terms of what they allow users to do and how they allow users to interact with one another. In addition to all the preexisting information fields, profiles now feature several brand new fields ready for customization including personal statements, an expanded "About Me" section, and more. Members also have the ability to leave comments about other members in their profiles, and create their own network of friends. If you want to add a member as your friend, just click on the "Add as Friend" icon that appears under their personal photo on their profile screens and on the drop-down accessible from clicking on their username in the topic view.
  
  A note on personal photos: Because the new board uses a different formatting system for member profiles, all previously uploaded personal photos were automatically removed. New personal photos can be as large as 200kb in size and 200x250 pixels in dimension.
  
  
• Posting Videos is something a number of members have requested in the past, and now this highly-anticipated feature comes to the PA Forums! Among the many additions to the new post screen is an icon that allows members to quickly and easily add videos to their posts by simply entering the URL of the video into the popup box that appears. Videos can be embedded into posts in any section of the boards, and begin loading at the press of a button.
  
  Note: At the present, the forum's video code ONLY supports videos hosted on YouTube. We are, however, looking into the possibility of modifying the code to be compatible with the current systems used by other video sites. Also, I'm aware that the current maximum dimensions for embedded videos (425x350 pixels) is rather small and distorts the picture of some HD videos slightly. The dimensions of the default player will be increased in a future update.
  
  
• The Member List has a brand new layout and a variety of new features that I'm not going to bother listing because the member list honestly isn't as interesting as the other stuff. The new setup really pretty awesome, though. It's way easier to navigate, and just look at all those search parameters! Goddamn!

As excited as I am to see the new board in action (the erection I have right now has lasted WAY longer than four hours), there are a couple of issues with some work-in-progress features and bug fixes that you guys should be aware of while you're partying hard. You'll likely notice some display errors with a number of tags and attachments appearing in posts made prior to the upgrade—this was an inevitable issue resulting from some discrepancies between the old board software and the new, and we've already started the process of rebuilding old posts so they display properly. Everything should be right as rain within roughly a day, so don't panic if you look at some of your old posts and notice certain formatting tags aren't working or attachments aren't appearing where they should.

Other upcoming fixes to known issues and some miscellaneous new stuff we're currently working on:

• Redesigning the layout for polls so they wrap properly and generally look better.
  
  
• Fixing some BBCode issues in personal messages.
  
  
• Adding fields for Facebook and Twitter info in the "Contact Information" section of member profiles.
  
  
• Changing the color schemes for a few specific elements (most notably personal message post screens).
  
  
• Implementing some new anti-spam features and generally beefing up security.

In regards to that last item, changing the board software has resulted in some different security setups that might temporarily allow spambots to sneak onto the boards until we new prevention measures put in place. Should any bots find their way onto the boards and post ads or gibberish or whatever, here's what you'll be expected to do: IGNORE THEM. The new version of IPB comes with some very powerful cleanup features that allows me to delete a spambot account and remove every single one of their posts and topics with one single click of a mouse. I like how easy this is, and I'll get fucking angry if anyone creates more work for me by making a bunch of replies to the spam posts that I have to manually clean up.

Let me restate that again, just to make sure everybody sees it: If you see a spambot post on the forums, pretend like you don't. Send me a PM if you have any doubt I'll notice them, but do NOT quote, reference, or reply to anything a bot posts while you wait for me to wipe 'em out.

If you notice any glitches, errors, or problems with the forums not outlined above, please share your findings here or in a personal message to a staff member so the issue can be addressed and resolved.

I think that just about covers everything... Before I wrap this up, some thanks are in order. First, a huge thank-you to Requiem, without whom this upgrade never would have happened—not just because he did most of the work for the upgrade itself, but also because, without him, this forum wouldn't even exist in the first place. Secondly, another huge thank-you to everyone who donated and gave their hard-earned money to help make this board better for everyone.
