Whether it sounds better is a matter of opinion, but the purpose of a localization is to make it so an audience can understand a story in their own language. Calling it the Ripple makes sense because of the way it works. "What's this Ripple thing? Oh, they're using ripples of energy. I get it." The Japanese name, on the other hand, isn't intuitive to an English speaker.

You could have someone mention that hamon = ripple, but at that point you're firmly into "keikaku means plan" territory and might as well cut out the middleman.

Had to drop by here eventually, didn't I?

I freaking love Jojo. I can't add anything here that hasn't already been said, but everything about it speaks to me on various levels. As an artist, as a horror-lover, as a music lover, & as a human being with a sense of humour & a lack of patience for almost all other anime.
I've been reading the rerelease of Phantom Blood, the SJ release of Stardust Crusaders & watching the new anime from start to finish.

& to keep on topic, it really should be the Ripple.

I finally started watching JoJo and finished Phantom Blood, and man, it really deserves all the praise it gets.

It's phenomenally good at pacing, animation, music, characterization, use of colour and creativity. It's not often that a show manages to put out a compelling story in a mere nine episodes, and JoJo just nailed it.
Sure, I wish I could've seen characters like Zeppeli fight more, but he had a great emotional arc regardless, and I love him.

Dio was a great villain, too, especially with how well he managed to embody all the deadly sins to establish him as a highly memorable and entertaining antagonist.

It's definitely the best show I've seen in a good while.

Believe me, Battle Tendency is EVEN BETTER. Though let's face it, Jonathan was bland. And why the dub decided to call Straits, Straizo is something I'll never know (because of copyright issues, I assume. I also assume those copyright issues are really dumb). Nevermind the fact that he's VERY CLEARLY named after the Dire Straits along with Dire but they didn't change Dire's name. So what gives?

There are people who prefer Part 1 over 3?

I prefer Part 1 over part 3 because Part 1 is very different compared to the other parts plus it didn't drag out that long with a lot of filler fights which is a weakness for Part 3 and part 5 to an extent.

I dunno, I thought Jonathan was a pretty solid protagonist when looked at on his own.
Sure, I can't speak for the other JoJo's and how they compare, but by himself, Jonathan is likeable, emotionally expressive, clever, and has a strong dynamic going on between him and Dio. He's a pretty fulfilling character.

So are we going to open bets on what we think the Part 4 ending theme is going to be.
To be frank I think the most likely candidate would be We built this city by Starship.

Yeah. Jonathan's problem is that he got too easily overshadowed. His character arc was very well done, with him going from being dunked on 24/7 by Dio Brando to being the most fabulous vampire-slayer of turn of the century Britain. But in the very next part, we got Joseph Joestar and Stroheim the cyborg laser-nazi.

That's true.
It also had the Pillar Men as much more complex and engaging villains than Dio Brando was. Especially since Dio was basically just Jonathan's antithesis, while Wham and ACDC get to display aspects of Joseph's own personality, like his inventive tactics and ability to psych out his opponent.

I've been reading Stone Ocean and now I just keep wondering where in the fuck Emporio learned to drive a car and fly a helicopter.
Last time I checked, he was just an ordinary kid living in the cracks of a prison, so where would he have ever had the opportunity to practise? How does he even reach the pedals with his little legs? Or is he like Koichi and he's just drawn much shorter than he actually is.

Honestly, Emporio is just weird.

Caesar's voice in the Jojo dub is hilariously bad. And it really stands out from what is a pretty good dub.

Caesar sounds like a mix of English Eren Jaeger and Billy with an italian accent

I was re-reading the thread and I'd like to see Max do a rundown of all the arcs like he did for Steel Ball Run. It's was fun to read that one.
