So that Americans with Disabilties act has many many applications. One such application is suing a game company for its stupid practice. I am kinda interested in how this one plays out. If the dude wins it could mark a huge change in gaming. It could also result in millions of frivolous game lawsuits.

What you are deaf? The game didn't provide option for subtitles. Bam, lawsuit. What you don't speak English? Bam, lawsuit for a videagame being discriminatory.

Well, that's a bunch of bullshit. It's in no way discriminative to expect the people playing your games to be people able to use the 3 senses most often associated with them and not even think about implementing certain options in game because of it. Yeah, it sucks that you can't actually play the game because you weren't actually ever thought of, but that doesn't mean that they're specifically not doing so because you're not able to play normally.

Whoever sent that letter from Sony, however, is a total bastard.

I'm curious about just how you're supposed to make certain games more accessible to the blind, anyway. That definitely doesn't sound like the easiest of task.

Unless you're blind, don't subtitles take care of the language problem?

People who are BLIND want to play videogames? That would be like an armless person wanting to drive a car, and then suing General Motors, because a car for amputees is impossible. You know, I think the next SEGA-game should have a label that says: "If you can read this, you're able to play videogames."

What the fuck is up with this? Max is right, a blind person can't play games, a blindfolded person can play games if they have memorized the damn game, but they needed to see it first to do that. It's just not possible for someone who's blind to figure out what to do in a medium which is mostly visual.

The deaf thing Arc mentioned as a joke I can kind of understand. Older games had to use text because they couldn't hold reasonable speech recordings. Even after they did gain the capacity for speech in game, they still kept text just in case you couldn't hear it or understand it for some reason. It's only recently that they're starting to remove them from console games. Just why? Is it that much of a hassle to even just have a subtitle option? I prefer subtitles on anyways just because I'm so used to seeing them. I don't care if it makes it look less like a movie or whatever, I'm playing a fucking game.

Wrong. Some games can be actually be played blindly without ever having seen it, through sounds and controller vibrations. Yes, it'll take a long time to get a hang of, especially with you being at an extreme disadvantage, but it is doable.

Example: There was guy who was blind since birth kicking the shit out of others in Mortal Kombat. The guy's been playing games from a young age and apparently doesn't have much of a problem doing so anymore.

This is what happens when he have PC Democrats in power who are using this to buy votes.

What's next, are the no-legged gonna sue Nike for not having shoes for their needs? Are mutes going to sue karaoke companies for not making products that allow them to kill legendary rock songs? Are the color blind gonna sue Twister because they cannot partake in the shenanigans?

Slightly off-topic, but don't they have cars for people without feet?

That was funny, though. I mean, seriously. I think this whole thing is stupid. I'm all for equal-rights and shit, but this is ridiculous...

OK, point taken, but there is a large majority of games, most notably platformers, that would be impossible to play blindly without a major reworking of the game's signals and cues for a non-visual medium, and even then it's iffy if they could be playable.

Also, I just want to say that if there's any one genre that I could see getting hurt out of this more than any others if the guy sues successfully (which probably won't happen, but still) I would have to think it would be the Survival Horror genre. That genre relies so closely on the combination of sight and sound, and the lack of one or the other at certain times, in order to get the most out of its goal. Try and imagine a Silent Hill game where you couldn't hear the static of the enemy radio, or any moaning, or anything.

Ooh. Sony just got sued. Okay this is still pretty stupid. Big whoop. The guy only now sues? I mean, I'm sure blind people have thought of shit like this before, but this guy actually did it. What's the point in playing VIDEO games if you can't see? I demand Sony make audio games instantly!

You know I'm pretty sure the guy isn't actually blind. The article specifically says "visually impaired" and references bright color contrast.

Also, every MMO I've played has had some pretty damn obvious visual cues to help you figure out where you're supposed to go. Usually a fucking giant ass arrow, and big dot on the mini-map, and even bigger dot on the main map, and sometimes even a giant glowy pillar in the fucking sky.

I don't know exactly what he was playing had, but if it was anything along those lines, then he might as well have been blind to not be able to get the cues.

I've got a simple solution for this. Someone should should invent the MMO GPS. It has a wide array of voices to choose from, and it tells a blind person everything that's happening around them. Like: HOLY SHIT! 50 FIREBALLS ARE HEADED STRAIGHT TOWARDS YOU! I SUGGEST YOU START PANICKING!" And just so everyone knows you're a blind player, you'll always have a blind icon from Final Fantasy above your head.

Come to think of it, I feel bad to those who are blind. They can't enjoy many things in life like video games and other things. sad.gif

Al Cone is just one of them non-working kids who follows the Democrats blindly. Apparently the left thinks its always good to throw out Rush Limbaugh to make themselves look less stupid. Its odd, no doubt, but they are special that way.

Great. Nintendo starts designing all of their games to be useable by mentally handicapped people and suddenly everyone expects all video game companies to pander to the disabled.
