Project A.F.T.E.R. Forums _ General Discussion _ TV Tropes is dead to me.

Posted by: Al_Cone Jan 20 2011, 09:20 PM

Warning: The following page is so disturbing that the emotions it evokes in you must be processed in a very specific order, lest you collapse into a pocket dimension of pure fury from which there is no return.

1. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BoysEmpire

2. Resist urge to kill self.

3. Grow violently enraged at the person defending a twelve year old boy climaxing inside of his mother, and then his mother saying "welcome back" as "heartwearming" and "fetish fuel."

4. Lose internal war with suicidal urges.

5. Destroy universe.

6. Be remade in an animated Hideaki Anno continuity reboot.

7. Disown TV Tropes permanently.

Because Shmeckie hasn't gotten to him yet, I suppose.

Posted by: Screaming_Soulcatcher Jan 20 2011, 09:39 PM

ugh i feel i need to take a shower now

But in all honesty Al it took you this long to encounter something like this on Tv Tropes? I think either Shmeckie or MoA posted some sick shit from their before (like people who approve of sleeping with their cousins)

Posted by: Arc Baltic Jan 20 2011, 09:41 PM

HEARTWARMING!? FUCKING HEARTWARMING!? WHO THE FUCK WROTE THIS SHIT!? ARC WANTS HIS HEAD ON A MOTHER FUCKING PLATTER. THIS IS BEYOND FUCKING RETARDED! ARC HATE! ARC SMASH! ARC THINK LITTLE! ARC VIOLENT!

Posted by: Gamer-e Jan 20 2011, 09:50 PM

Yeah... This one shitty article isn't enough to make me hate TV Tropes as a whole.

That said, I think that I'm going to destroy the page via proxy.

I think I may have seen that hentai mentioned before. On certain parts of the website, I kept running into people talking about a "boys love" genre of manga, which I either found out or automatically presumed to be yaoi, so my mind has caused me to ignore anything in the manga and anime portion in those part of the website that began with "boys".

Posted by: The Chosen Jan 20 2011, 09:57 PM

I got heartburn from that. Does that count as heartwarming?

Posted by: Master of AFTER Jan 20 2011, 10:44 PM

Holy shit. Now that I look at it, that site has coverage for a disturbing number of hentai comics. Oh well, TV Tropes was already dead to me anyway.

Posted by: Joker Jan 20 2011, 10:55 PM

Terrible, just terrible. I'll never go back to this site again, I... wait, Red Baron? I've never heard of that trope before, I'll just open that in a new tab. Hmm... Black Lagoon has an example, I've been meaning to watch that, I'll just open that in a new tab too... Hmm...

Because normally, in Hentai-Land nobody get's pregnant, especially when incest is involved. So if there is pregnancy, it obviously caters to pregnancy-fetishists. Hence, Gotoh caters to people who get off on the idea of impregnating their own mother. Think about how fucked-up THAT is.

Posted by: Screaming_Soulcatcher Jan 21 2011, 11:22 AM

Yeah...your right about that Max. In fact, the character when he knocks up his "girlfriend " (not his mom mind you) he said he prefers her in a pregnant state

And more, yes. The fact that the author actually had to make a chart so you can tell what's going on in this incestuous clusterfuck is kind of depressing.

...on second thought, now it makes sense why the main character's mother is molesting him and doesn't have sex with her husband: She's a pedophile.

Posted by: P Dot Alex Jan 21 2011, 12:58 PM

FUCKING COMMON SENSE, HOW DOES IT WORK???

Posted by: Gamer-e Jan 21 2011, 01:19 PM

You know, I just thought about something... It's strange that the father isn't involved in any of these instances. I know this is going to sound disturbing, but Gotoh obviously has a thing for shotacon, yaoi, and lolicon, so the father getting involved, even if only with the son, would make sense... Instead, only the mother, a fully developed woman, is involved.

Does Gotoh wish he were a small child again? Did he have fantasies about his mother when he was a kid?

I also forgot to address this:

QUOTE (Mysty @ Jan 21 2011, 02:27 PM)

You're thinking of Hebephilia, which is the attraction to those in early stages of purberty. Ephebophila is a quality most hentai artists have, since most hentai involves physically mature teenagers. Also, to be a hebephile, the target is usually between 11-14... I seriously doubt that the boys are even 11.

Posted by: gfw spacezilla Jan 21 2011, 01:21 PM

Wait, ten?
HOW DO YOU MAKE A CHILD AT 10. PUBERTY HASN'T EVEN BEGUN THEN, NEVERMIND THE PRODUCTION OF SEMEN. THIS HENTAI HAS TOO MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF HOLES.

Posted by: Gamer-e Jan 21 2011, 01:24 PM

If the ages were reversed, it'd make sense. If I'm not mistaken, females can get pregnant as soon as they have their first period and that can occur before purberty even begins...

Posted by: Screaming_Soulcatcher Jan 21 2011, 01:25 PM

well apparently some are able to produce semen at an earlier age than others and children (in rare cases mind you) can actually develop the ability to reproduce beofre puberty (the girl Makoto knocks up didnt even have her period yet but apparently was ovulationg)

And...wait a minute, why am I explaining this? This thing doesnt deserve rational thought! Im just going to assume a wizard did it

No, I was thinking of ephebophillia, which, for those that don't know, is attraction to people 15-19 years old and apparently not a word according to spell-check on Google Chrome because everyone always just groups them in with pedophilia. Never even heard of hebephilia, actually...

*

Well, since you know what ephebophilia is, then that means that you were unknowingly confusing pedophilia with hebephilia if you thought they looked 12.

The reason I assumed that you were confusing hebephilia and ephebophilia is because teenagers that are 15-17 tend to never be late developers in hentai unless the artist is catering to those with a loli/shota fetish and the stage between pedophilia and ephebophilia is hebephilia, so saying "That's not even into ephebophilia territory yet. That is straight pedophilia..." threw me off.

Posted by: Mysty Jan 21 2011, 02:33 PM

According to a few sources, pedophilia can count towards children thirteen and under depending on sexual development. So since I didn't know what hebephillia was, and I haven't read the comic, that's all I had to go on.

Either way this thing is depraved.

Posted by: Screaming_Soulcatcher Jan 21 2011, 02:37 PM

According to the DSM IV (the psychology disorder handbook) pedophilia is desrcibed as a person with a sexual attraction towards those under the age of 13

However it also states that the person in question must be at least 5 years older than the person they are attracted to

So the mother in this thing (even beofre she fucked her son) is a definite pedophile

Posted by: Al_Cone Jan 21 2011, 03:29 PM

It's funny that Shmeckie says "this must be how serial killers feel all the time ALL THE TIME," because I actually thought to myself after reading that page "God, this must be what being Shmeckie feels like!"

Also, maybe it's a sign that I'm too far gone, but Vader's posting of those examples made me laugh out loud.

Posted by: Arc Baltic Jan 21 2011, 03:33 PM

As an adult he has sex with the mother off-screen, either right before or after she does it with her son in the 9th book.

I remember this because it leads to her having half-twins, one from the dad and one from the son. Which apparently is actually possible though extremely rare.

Posted by: Mysty Jan 21 2011, 04:16 PM

It is possible; after a woman gets pregnant, her reproductive organs seal off so she can't get pregnant again while she's pregnant from the first time, although I suppose if she had sex with two different men (or one...) close enough to each other, it could happen. The egg doesn't attach right away and I'd assume that's when any chance of, uh, twins would be gone.

Wait, why am I trying to explain this?

QUOTE
A title endowed to two male friends who have both fucked the same woman. The one who penetrates first gains seniority and thenceforth becomes the elder hole brother; however, there is no limit to the number of junior or senior hole brothers a man can have with a particular woman.

If that chart that was posted earlier is any indicator, that woman that they both fucked would be the main character's sister.

I don't think it's really fair to judge an entire site based on what ONE poster thinks. A lot of times there's some serious discussion and stuff like that is removed. In fact, if you make a point about it you can actually get the thing removed entirely, especially if it becomes natter.

Can we just agree that the Fetish Fuel portion of Tv Tropes could just go away? At least the Troper Tales section?

The That Guy With The Glasses Site has a Page for basically each member (well the more productive members that is) and you wonder why Doug Walker is saying that some of his fans scare him (like those that get turned on by him gettin tortured, hurt, etc.)

Todd actually has a strong fetish fuel following. Keep in mind that Todd NEVER HAS SHOWN HIS FACE.

That Kissing Cousins troper tales page is so fucking long I didn't bother past the first few entries. My eyebrows practically shot into the stratosphere when someone was squicked by being attracted to their first cousin, but not to their first cousin once removed...

Troper Tales in general need to be cut. Either no one cares or they're like that.

Time to play "Induce everybody's suicide reflex!"

QUOTE (what)
This female troper has a major thing for stomachaches. It's weird though: it has to be a stomachache from eating too much. So I sometimes watch stuffing videos, but they don't do anything for me unless the person makes it clear that they're uncomfortable.

QUOTE (i was doing alright until that last one)
This troper has an interesting range of preferences, liking large breasts, sporty girls, Meganekkos, and Shrinking Violets. Then of course there's the voraphilia thing, which he could wax philosophically about all day.

QUOTE (im so depressed this must be what being hideaki anno is like)
This lurker loves weight gain, stuffing and fat muscular guys (but not so fat that it would put their health in danger). Also fascinated by furries, yaoi, bifauxen and incest.

QUOTE (pot calls kettle black @ film at eleven)
This troper has several kinks, including (but definitely not limited to) Goth girls, girls wearing glasses, Tara Strong, and girls wearing diapers. Not all at once...perverts...

QUOTE (.........)
Being the misogynist sadist that I am, nothing gets me off more than when I hear (or better yet, see) that a woman has been hurt physically or emotionally. It's practically the only reason I watch the news these days. Don't you bitches worry though, I'm very good at hiding it and I wouldn't lay a finger on you without your consent, though it would be floating around in my mind.

Still retaining the will to live? You're clearly missing something.

There's nothing wrong with having fetishes but the weirder these examples get, the more I think of that South Park episode, when the internet dies and one of the dads can't get off because he can't watch 2girls1cup.

I believe it was someone on this board that said if you physically can't orgasm without "help" you're doing it wrong.

Just look at the Kissing Cousins Troper Tales...

QUOTE
•This troper and his younger cousin used to tie each other up with skipping ropes as children. We never really dropped this as we grew older, although we both stopped mentioning it whenever someone else was around. It grew to the point where we would go to our rooms in secret to tie each other up, with none of our family ever suspecting anything was amiss. We would lie on the bed, and I would hold her mouth shut with my hands, arms behind her back, and we would just watch T.V. We never said anything, but I'm sure we both knew there was an attraction. She ended up staying over night at my house when we were both 17, and I felt her up as she slept. Of course, it turns out she wasn't really sleeping. We never said anything, went to bed, and unfortunately haven't had a chance to visit since then. I would totally be up for going further, however...

◦Please, do tell more when you get together again, if you wouldn't mind.

QUOTE
•When this troper was around nine years old, her two-months-older but precocious male cousin asked her to take her clothes off for him. This troper didn't quite understand why her cousin would want that, but she was old enough to sense that these were waters too deep for her to swim in. Cousin pleaded, and finally this troper smiled and kindly said she would remove her shoes and socks. Even at age nine, she knew how to be a Literal Genie.

QUOTE
•This troper mourns being born into a large Caribbean family. This troper has at least 7 female cousins he can come up with off the top his mind. ALL SEVEN OF THEM ARE SMOKING HOT. It frustrates this troper, especially since Caribbean women, and people in general, are very touchy-feely. ESPECIALLY with family. Incidentally, this is the exact reason this troper's best friend avoids dating Asian females. According to him:
Marv: It's like, what if they're like, my cousin or something?

◦You, my friend, suck. Wanna trade families? This troper's female cousins are all average looking and live hundreds of miles away.

■Hah. You think you have it 'hard'? All my female cousins are under the age of seven. Maybe eight, at most. (Course, having one cousin, two adopted cousins, and one half-cousin doesn't really give a large number of them...)

■...have you guys considered hooking up with girls who are, you know, not your cousins?

■Well, this IS the Troper Tales section for Kissing Cousins...

QUOTE
•About ten years ago, This troper once got a hand-job from his female cousins. That's right, with an s. At the same time. This Troper was seven, the cousins five and three. This troper's aunt (their mother) plopped us all in the shower and said nothing when they came on to him. I had Nightmares for days.

◦Wait. How the hell would they know..........Nevermind, I don't want to know.

◦In an attempt to cleanse my mind of it, I've chalked it up to curiosity. They had obviously showered together before (Les Yay) and the addition of the male anatomy confused them, and they went exploring... okay, I'm gonna stop.

■Brain Bleach!!!!! My kingdom for some fucking Brain Bleach!!!!!!!

◦It gets worse. They're both All Grown Up. And they remember.

■How the hell can you consider it a handjob if you probably couldn't get off at that age (could you really get hard at seven?) Also, why would you assume they are lesbians because they showered together at three and five? Either I'm missing something or your "handjob" was more like "drooling little kids messing with small parts." Pun intended, and Take That as well for the hell of it.

■For the record, the Les Yay thing was obviously a joke. Only an idiot would think otherwise, as I was talking about kids in the single digits. Second, I had already seen my first porno at seven.

■You can definitely get hard at age seven, since the ability to have erections and orgasms is innate and distinct from the ability to ejaculate. This troper had his first (dry, self-induced) orgasm when he was 3.

■Hmm. Didn't know that... I don't remember ever getting hard before I could actually have a wet orgasm. Hmm.

◦This troper had a similar experience with a girl on his soccer team... in the middle of a game. I'm not sure how it happened (and not sure I want to know), but he remembers being far too embarrassed to pay much attention to what was going on down there.

■This troper really, really wants to know more. Hence, please elaborate.

QUOTE
•This troper's cousin was the one who taught him how to French Kiss, though this troper didn't know what to make of it at the time because he was nine.

And my favorite...

QUOTE
•Take a seat by the fire chil'ren.* tokes corn-cob pipe* I got 3 first cousins(A, B and C).

◦Cousin-A is one year older than me and on my father's side. She gave me a number of firsts. First kiss, first tongue kiss, first dry hump(all of these before entering first grade), first fellatio...

■I attribute my lack of squick reaction on cousin incest to this girl. We kissed and humped whenever we were alone. That was how we played. And if we were eating, we would always sit on opposite sides of the table facing each other so we could put our foot in the others crotch so we could hump that. Yeah... Hormones raging before we even had them.

■Around the age of 6, I informed one of my male cousins about my relationship with her. His reaction? "Oh, me too". Apparently we were members of her harem(there was an other male cousin as well but he was absent this time). It then became an operation where two would go into a room and then later a boy would come out and say "your turn". One time I was with her on her bed and her older brother caught us. Luckily instead of kicking my ass and/or spilling the beans, he just teases us about it.

■Around 8 years old she gave me my first blowjob. Unfortunately, the hardware was not yet functional.. My reaction to the ordeal was "it tickles". She never did it again(I never had the frame of mind to ask her to do so at later meetings). How did a 10 year old girl know about fellatio back around 1994? She had Skinemax in her bedroom. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that this fellatio happened in a room adjacent to the room our grandmother was in, AND THE DOOR WAS OPEN. Did not think that through. Time passed on and we grew apart. We meet again in our late teens and she's a slightly overweight mother. I mention to an older brother of Cousin-C(lol) of my relationship with Cousin-A. "I figured something was up". How many ppl in my family know about this?

◦Cousin-B, there isn't much to tell. Out of the three, I have done the least with her but she is the only one that wouldn't surprise me if she flirted with me the next time me meet. She is 2 years older than me and on my mom's side of the family. When I was about 5 or so, we kissed and dry humped. That's all we ever did beyond subtle flirting aside for one time I felt her up while she slept(during our mid-teens). It's like, 5 years old was such a long time ago that maybe we aren't thinking the same thing anymore. So I was afraid to cross that line again. During a family meeting, everyone was sitting down and all seats were taken. She decides that she's going to sit on my lap. This surprised the hell out of me, my knee jerk reaction was to literally jerk my knee. So she fell.

◦Cousin-C, hoo-boy. From around the age of 11-15, I've been living with my aunt. Cousin-C is the only female of 4 siblings. She is 2 years younger than me and on my mom's side. There was a gap of time between my last moment with A and my first with C. Things changed, like my full development of an insecure personality and the first stages of puberty. Before I moved in, I would often come to sleepover. It became apparent to me that this girl(who may or may not have been in the first stages of her puberty) was attempting to seduce me. Whenever I was watching TV, she would get in front of it(or me) and do some kind of gyration before leaving. I ask one of her older brothers if she always does this. "No, just when you're here" Hmm.◊ One day I'm walking up the stairs ahead of her and she stops... wiggles her ass right in front of me... Still no action on my part until...

■Aunt asks me to get her the box of tissues. Cousin-C in laying "asleep" on the couch, with the box wedged between her ass and the back of the couch. There's no way in hell. I grab the box with one hand and pull while copping a feel with the other. No reaction. Here begins my qualification for a new layer of Hell.◊

■I began to cop feels while she slept. At some point she managed to confirm to me that she was awake for some if not all of those times(which is in the double digits). This gave me the courage to do things like reach into her pajamas.

■With her, there was always a line I didn't cross that I wish I could go back and cross so that it wouldn't be a big deal now. We never kissed. Any forwardness on my part mostly occurred while she was either asleep or "asleep". One time she licked the back of my hand. That was nice. I lived with her during her developmental years, so I'm probably the first male to feel her breasts. While she was "asleep", I pulled out my wang and put it in her hand. At some point I assume she is growing out of this due to her sometimes giving me bad signals. I stopped and we don't talk about it. I'm now 24, she's 22 and FREAKIN GORGEOUS◊. Serious model potential. No awkwardness between us now. But all she needs to do is give me the word and I will beat it up till her pelvis turns to dust◊. I'll squick when I'm dead.

Is it bad the only thing I found terribly offensive was Shmeckie's favorite (including Al's quotes)? Though a close second being the shower handjob, which maybe could be explained a way. The other ones all seem relatively harmless, save the really fucking creepy comments.

9 year olds kissing, they might be too young to know better. A guy complaining, "I have hot cousins, I don't want them to be this hot", isn't banging cousins. Little boys asking little girls to get naked are probably more curious about what the opposite sex looks like naked, not omg bone her. Again the comments on some of those are much more disturbing than the real trope.

Al's fetish quotes all just seemed weird but harmless. Then again, people fucking in fursuits, bdsm, and footjobs and whatever else have all be come a big okay what ever in my mind.

Edit:

99% of those also are probably made up fantasies by 13 year olds who don't know what they are talking about.

I'm tempted to just change this thread's title to "Troper Tales Are Fucking Stupid," but I think that'd completely disenfranchise that horrible Boy's Empire page.

Speaking of, here are some more horrible troper tales from the Perverse Sexual Lust page.

QUOTE (our first documented instance of bleedman turning someone into a pedophile)
# I'm in despair! Blossom made me Lolicon for her!

QUOTE (someone has a rape fetish~)
Say what you will about the comic he's in, but Largo is why this troper is still reading.

QUOTE (she's fourteen and she looks fourteen you sick son of a bitch)
# Four years ago. First time I ever played Kingdom Hearts. Kairi. Very, very, short skirt.

QUOTE (honestly i think i'm just repeating myself at this point)
# I am not afraid to admit that I am furry for Typhlosion, Suicune, Buizel, Floatzel, Linoone, Zoroark, and Eevee and the Eeveelutions (except for Leafeon). And Lucario, Serperior, Milotic, and Blaziken to an extent.

And, because I love you all just ever-so-much, here's one more laughable entry from the Heroic BSOD page!

QUOTE (he even spells it with a k good lord)
The one and only time this troper has his heart broken, dove into black magick in a seriously destructive way. It was sort of convenient that I'd been 'collecting' knowledge through general dabbling, made many contacts who I could learn more from, but was never really tempted to use it. Posted by: Mysty Jan 26 2011, 12:29 PM

And a lot of it seems to be whining from people who weren't smart enough to carry around some healing items so are trying to blame the CPU when they're down to their last Pokemon and just happen to get OHKO'd.

I think you missed the point of that article completely, Mysty. I also think that article was edited heavily in the short time since I've posted it because I was under the impression that those people were talking about how the RNG favors the CPU over the player, especially in the Battle Tower/Battle Frontier (where item usage is impossible), and how, at times, the CPU clearly does the impossible.

I found the guy who said that. You omitted the part where he said that Lance used seven of them in a row. You can't just choose to ignore an important fact like that just to make your criticism valid.

CPUs usually only use one per match. If they do that every turn, then it becomes impossible to win. The guy wasn't complaining about the fact that Lance used healing items, but how many times he did. You can't fault a guy for complaining that the CPU is needlessly extending a match.

Lance did it several times every time I battled him. Regardless, they don't do that, they only do it if their Pokemon is in (sort of) critical condition. You're under the assumption that everyone's going to have the same Pokemon, moves, money, healing items available, and be under the same circumstances in the battle.

What would you say to the guy if he only had one Pokemon available that wouldn't get its ass kicked by Dragonite and that Pokemon didn't have any moves that either didn't drop it to a low amount of HP or not affect it at all? What about in the case where, even if he could slowly lower Dragonite's health, doing so would allow Dragonite to destroy the one available Pokemon capable of taking it on? In either case, all he can do is constantly use the really powerful attack.

On your first run through the Elite Four and Champion, either of those situations are very possible.

I'd tell him to stop being such a twat and that he should get some ice attacks. I had one fast Pokemon that wasn't even an Ice-type or very powerful, and the ass-raping it dealt to his two (or were it three in HG/SS?) Dragonites was out of this world.

Since personal subjective anecdotes are apparently all it takes for those guys to prove the RNG is fucking with you, I can use one to disprove it, can't I? I won for the first time ever in Pokemon Red against Gary using a team that absolutely sucked ass. I was down to one Pokemon (a Charizard Lv. 45 or so) and barely managed to finish off his Exeggutor. He brought out Blastoise. One hit from that and I would lose. I used Fissure. It never hit the previous twenty times or so. This time it did. It was fucking awesome.
Therefore, the computer in Pokemon is not a cheating bastard and helps you win. DERP.

This troper's entire senior year was basically one long BSOD. The worst one was caused by my Cerberus necklace breaking, twice, then the replacement breaking.

Pathetic. Whiny bitch. 'Nuff said.

Posted by: Mysty Jan 26 2011, 02:12 PM

Max is right. Besides, why would that Troper Tales page be any different from the others, in that some people are exaggerating or outright lying to make a good story? And as for my point, it wasn't OHKO, but there was one at the end (misplaced) about fighting Koga in Soul-Silver and getting stuck in a perpetual healing-shed skin cycle before finally dying. Koga is the second Elite Four member. If you're down to your last Pokemon that quick, you're doing it wrong.

Also yes, that Cerberus necklace thing was horrible. I could understand if it was something special given to the girl (or guy?) by their dead grandma or something, but if it was easily replaced it sounds more like something you could get out of a vending machine for fifty cents.

Posted by: Screaming_Soulcatcher Jan 26 2011, 03:17 PM

I think the cerberus necklace is the same asshole that dabbled in black magick after his girlfriend broke up with him

Posted by: Mysty Jan 26 2011, 03:19 PM

It sounds like a book, actually. Guy's girlfriend breaks up with him, so he sees his only option as learning black magick so he can curse her to hell or something.

Gah I really cant stand people like that. I may be putting too much emphasis on it but these people are on the same level as weeaboos. I call them wiccers

Posted by: Gamer-e Jan 26 2011, 04:22 PM

I could argue against what Vader and Mysty said (and, unless you haven't been paying attention, you know I would), but I don't feel like going through that right now. I stand by what I said, though.

Regardless of who's right, anybody who doesn't find some those shitty situations amusing has no soul.

Posted by: Shmeckie Jan 27 2011, 02:01 AM

TV Tropes is often edited by teenage geeks with no life. That may sound like an exaggerated insult, but the proof is in the pudding; teenage geeks with no life can't handle stupid little shit, and they go all Twilight over shit like "ohmigawd my novelty necklace I really like KEEPS BREAKING! AAAAAUGH!"

    * YES. Ah, redheads, my one weakness(of several dozen)...
    * In addition to the God Tier character design, Asuka is just incredibly attractive for someone who's defined by a mental breakdown causing her to pathetically implode like a dying star. She hits just the right notes for both The Tease and The Woobie. I can relate to Shinji, damn it.

QUOTE
Still, I love Rei. Rei's omnipresence, appearance and personality decreases suffering and gives comfort. I wish I could merge with her in instrumentality...

    * I pray to your church, but there's something else about Rei. Those flickers of personality, those moments where the soulless machine of a woman shows that she really does have some spirit. It's not there, it's just hidden, and damn it, I want to bring it out of her. The plan is simple - four years of trying desperately to pull the emotions out of her, then she's 18 and it's free game from there. Besides, the orgies with the rest of the Reiquarium would be quite nice.

ORGIES... with... UGH.

QUOTE
# This troper gets where you're coming from. Something about the whole totality of Haruhi's character — appearance and personal idiosyncrasies — just strikes me as incredibly hot, but I can't explain exactly just what I find so hot. Same with Tsuruya. And then there's Yuki. Oh, Lord, Yuki. The quiet bespectacled bookworm just strikes a chord with my tendency to find nerdy girls sexy. Even after she stops being a Meganekko her hotness stays the same — hell, it grows! Oh, and I think I may be bi for Kyon too.
# I know what you mean, man. I've never had PSL before, but I'm just so enraptured by Haruhi that I forget she's an anime character. It's probably because she's my ideal of a perfect girlfriend. Energetic, loud, smart, great looking, talented, frequently naked... What's not to love? She's just so hot, to me. Of course, I would give most of my possessions for any of the SOS brigade.

If you should feel pathetic at any point in your life, you can always take comfort in the fact that you're not one of these guys. I mean, MY GOD.

You act like PA is going to be some fucking huge mega-hit that TV Tropes readers develop some stalker-like obsession with, even though the site has already been linked on multiple pages there for more than half a year now and hasn't even generated enough interest during that time to get an exclusive page. I can't tell if you were taking that conversation seriously. I'm just going to assume that you weren't.

If we did have a page, the only way most of the things (or people) on the forums would even get a mention would be if somebody decided to be a moron and reference anything not related to the mockeries forum or the few people that get their feelings hurt and troll the place from time to time, so, even if the article did cause a lot of interest in the site, the majority of us'd go unnoticed.

Also, if we had a character sheet for the boards, members would just troll eachother...

Personally, I always thought it was a good thing that PA is relatively obscure. If we were to get as popular as, say, TGWTG or even someone on the level of Angry Joe, the level of fame would be no compensation for the shit we would have to put up with. Encyclopedia Dramatica would be all over us, and considering that bad fanfiction writers are some of the most butthurt individuals imaginable, they would probably either flood everything with bullshit or attempt to get our personal information in order to get back at us for talking badly about their newest Pokemon vore-fanfiction. Heck, ED would do it for the Lulz anyway. I would not be looking forward to that.

Hey, there was also the Tarot thing. Also, I wasn't involved in the first two things, like, at all.

But still, good point. To be fair, for a short while, it seemed like (to a doofus who used to actually play the game, like me) we were actually going to do something with the cards until they solely became about memes. Same thing goes for the Tarot.

I can understand the humor behind making ridiculous YGO cards, but can someone please explain the purpose of the Tarot topic? It reminds me of the superlative topics we had on a different board, except it only happens once and the categories are less fitting for a message board.

Hey, let's make a Project AFTER-themed version of Monopoly next.

Posted by: Arc Baltic Jan 29 2011, 10:19 PM

Can we go back to being surprised/angry that people when completely anonymous post crazy ass sexual fantasies? All the while pretending the three thirteen year old posters who made those actually practice them and aren't just being huge retards because they heard a few terms and saw putting cousins in them as a quick laugh?

Also I agree with everything MoA said except Monopoly. I think we should have PA themed Chess. MoA will be the king because he's fucking MOA. Shmeckie will be the queen as he is the most aggressive piece on the board and has periods. YHE and Al will be Bishops as they are advisers for the king and queen. Myself and 215 we'll be Knights as no one understands the way we move, which tends to seem to be contradictory to logic. TK and Max. The rest of you are pawns.

Posted by: Shmeckie Jan 30 2011, 01:58 AM

I'm half-tempted to view Arc's post there just to see if I'm right, but I'm gonna guess, here, because my Spider Sense and all that; Arc's gonna run with Moab's joke suggestion, suggest a different Project AFTER themed thing, run with that mid-post and come up with ideas for what people could be, and throw in an ass-kiss to Moab. Bonus points if there's a shot at me in there.

I don't even wanna click View Post now. That will cheapen it. Someone tell me if I'm right.

As for Moab's earlier suggestion, I don't know how well a PA TV Tropes page would work. Unless it was self-serving forum shit, which it should never be, what the hell "tropes" would PA even have? I guess shit that's in the fics Alex mocks, but that seems cheap for some reason...

I just read this on TV Tropes:

QUOTE
We no longer collect examples of fetish fuel. We did so for long enough to establish that literally everything is someone's fetish fuel, and that some few individuals are quite willing to go on about theirs at length. The topic seems to want to get out of Family Friendly territory too easily for TV Tropes, so we spun off another wiki for it: Fetish Fuel Wiki.

The thing has already 228 PAGES. Oh my fucking god. Also, Sean Fausz is Fetish Fuel for several people. WHAT THE FUCK.

Posted by: Gamer-e Feb 13 2011, 12:15 PM

Ahahahahaha! Holy shit, I can't believe that they had to do that!

Reposting the http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TroperTales/PornStash here. Not as funny as the fetish fuel thing, but I laughed at how many examples there were, what lengths people went through to hide their porn, and how some of them were bragging about having hundreds of gigs (sometimes a terabyte or two) of porn, some of whom were trying to one-up a previous poster.

Posted by: NiGHTS Noob Feb 14 2011, 07:00 PM

My IQ's over 150. IQ really doesn't have anything directly to do with knowledge. IQ really only has to do with one's ability to retain information, rationalize information, connect information, and gather and use information.

If the information you've gathered is shit or wrong, your knowledge on the subject is still going to be shitty or wrong. If you think you know something, it doesn't matter how high your IQ is, if you're right you're right, and wrong you're wrong. If you have a high IQ you can still be a fucktard.

Posted by: Shmeckie Feb 14 2011, 07:05 PM

I have no idea what my IQ is now, and I have no interest in knowing it. It was 160+ when I was in middle school (I know that because I was a massive dork back then and would recite my IQ at any given opportunity, effectively forcing myself to memorize it. GOD I needed an ass beating back then). I'm sure that's changed now.

Posted by: Gamer-e Feb 14 2011, 07:13 PM

IQ? I took an online IQ test back when I was 12 that rated me somewhere between 110 and 130... That's hardly proof of what my real IQ was at that particular point in time. Hell, I don't even think it even distinguished between age groups and did whatever the hell else official tests do.

I sorta want to learn what mine currently is. Thing is that those official ones cost money, as far as I know, and I'd rather spend it on something else.

Also, yeah, NN is right. Intelligence and knowledge, though very closely related, are two different things. It's possible to be completely ignorant and smart or vice versa. Plus, both are subjective.

You know, one thing I'm noticing about the Troper Tales pages is that a lot of people are fucking misusing tropes to describe themselves or others...

Also, everyone's apparently too stupid to tell what sarcasm is because people keep linking to the fucking Sarcasm Mode article.

One dude I saw claimed that he wished that America had lost its revolution against Britain because he wishes the world were different. He tried to justify this by saying he was America. When someone pointed out that it actually made things worse, he accused the guy of sounding like an "overly patriotic redneck" for thinking that wanting the country to be different meant that he didn't like it. Another person briefly pointed out why the original poster was a fucking moron, but the original poster hasn't replied back (yet). I'm assuming (s)he's going to say something even dumber if they do. Why is it hip to hate the United States?

This kind of shit is why I like focusing on the Troper Tales involved with gaming experiences more, but even those can get pretty stupid at times.

Posted by: Viashino_wizard Mar 2 2011, 10:39 AM

As for TV Tropes, I like it, but it has it's bad parts. For example, I rarely go into the Troper Tales section because, well, Gamer-e said it best. My knowledge of this is a little rusty, but as far as I can recall, soulbonding is indeed something like a relationship with a videogame character. Basically, the videogame character exists in our world as a spirit or a ghost or something of that nature, and so people contact them some how, and then bond with them and now said character lives inside the person's head. The character and the person can now talk to each other via an internal monologue, with the character offering advice or anything of that nature. Almost like a spirit guide.

And in all my years of internet travel, I have yet to discover one soulbonder who doesn't come across as an utter nincompoop.

In theory, that would almost be interesting. Back in ancient Greece, many people imagined they had some sort of spiritual "guide", which is basically just a religious spin on the idea of the concience. However, this guy doesn't come across as someone who wants some sort of fictional mentor, but instead a girlfriend. Because that shit was creepy, man. But anyway, If you don't really believe that crap, it could actually be kinda funny. I mean, who wouldn't want someone like Hazama or Muslim Rape Ninja as their spirit guide?

Posted by: Kuramastrass Mar 4 2011, 07:44 AM

Let's add more fuel to the fire~!

I wouldn't exactly call myself a soulbonder, but it seems to me to be incredibly similar to the relationship I have with my OCs/Sues/whatever you want to call my own characters. At least, since it's apparently possible to soulbond or whatever with your own characters, so I guess I'm sorta a soulbonder? Idk.

I had a relationship like that with some of the YYH characters at one point, the same time Kari (my Sue, not the one from Digimon) was running rampant. But I'm suspecting now that they probably weren't actual YYH characters but rather my own Sue/Stuified versions of them, since that's pretty much all I could ever write.

Posted by: TigerEyes Mar 4 2011, 09:59 AM

What.

There have been many cultures throughout time that seek the guidance of spirit animals/guides. Native Americans come most readily to mind. But they weren't attempting to bond with wolves, or eagles, or any other animal or creature. They were trying to bond with the CHARACTERISTICS of those animals.

It's quite common for animals, famous people, cartoon characters, role models, friends, etc. to appear to people in dreams, especially when people feel a strong connection to them in the waking world. This is because the mind recognizes the rapport these people have with you, and uses these images in order to more readily convey the information it wants you to know that you might not be paying attention to when you're awake. With the conscious barrier down during a dream, the subconscious often speaks purely symbolically, which is one reason why so many people's dreams are "messed up".

But once again, people are misusing a helpful tool to learn more about themselves and improve themselves in an effort to bolster their own egos...

The same reasons that people use anonymous fandom memes to confess things like they were almost raped (I fuck you not; it was on the Ace Attorney kink meme just the other day): no one knows it's you so you can just go somewhere else on the website and be fine.

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 5 2011, 09:29 AM

You know what I'm noticing over at TV Tropes?

People will remove things you've said if they don't like it. This ranges from bitchy users removing responses to them or what they just said that they didn't like in Troper Tales or stuck-up assholes deeming that your contribution wasn't worthy enough on one of the main pages regardless of whether or not it fit the criteria. Other times, they'll just go in and edit your original message.

I'll agree, some shit does not need to be said, but deleting something just because you didn't like it when it's clearly not breaking rules is something a small child would do.

Posted by: Mysty Mar 5 2011, 09:36 AM

I really do like TV Tropes for the most part outside of the Troper Tales but in that sense it's no better than Wikipedia. The edit wars over there can be FIERCE, and not just with trolls. Read some talk pages on a page for a major fandom. Horrible.

Posted by: Dr. O Mar 5 2011, 11:44 AM

I get the whole anonymity thing, but why use tropes, of all things, to describe yourself? They don't even do a good job of it; just look at the Crowning Moment of Awesome page, where the most trivial crap is described as momentous feats of badassery. It's like they feel the need to categorize everything, only in the most inept way possible.

For fuck's sake, they have two separate tropes to describe boob jiggling. TV Tropes was a nice idea in theory, but now half the site is worthless subjective crap and the other half is idiots spergin out over the most trivial stuff. The best thing they could do is purge Troper Tales, user pages, and every last Crowning Moment page, quarantine the subjective pages like they did with Fetish Fuel, and start working on making the wiki something more than a herpes rash on the face of literary analysis.

Alternatively, just turn the entire site into Darth Wiki.

Posted by: Mysty Mar 5 2011, 11:49 AM

People like to have a label for what's wrong with them. If you look at instances outside of tropes, you see people everywhere (mostly the internet, though you do see this in real life) that are like "Yeah, I have (ADD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc). I mean, I haven't had an official diagnosis or anything, but I totally looked up the symptoms online and I fit them!"

I'm sorry, but isn't that what TV Tropes supposed to be? It's not like Wikipedia, which tries to be as unbiased and formal as possible.

Also, what would you classify as "worthless"? Almost the entirety of the main portion of the site makes note of specific qualities in our entertainment (and real life, if there are examples in entertainment) and categorizes them to generate conversation, reminisce, and possibly generate interest in things other people wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Unless I'm just not visiting a certain portion of the site, then very seldom do we have truly useless trope pages.

Posted by: Mysty Mar 5 2011, 12:09 PM

I'd say even the more subjective ones like Nightmare Fuel can be interesting (or at least funny) to read because you get to see what made someone else piss their pants in terror.

Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés. The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite." In other words, dull and uninteresting. We are not looking for dull and uninteresting entries. We are here to recognize tropes and play with them, not to make fun of them.

Funny, but I don't think "This Troper thought this moment was really cool, so it's going in Crowning Moments" qualifies as "devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations." When I do go on TV Tropes, it's because I want to find something out about a show, not read some fatty nerd's opinion of which characters should be shipped together. It's like if someone decided to write an analysis of, say, Star Wars, and devoted half of it to how cool they thought certain scenes were, or how Revenge of the Sith was totally Darker and Edgier because it was on the cynical end of the Sliding Scale Of Idealism Versus Cynicism. That's not analyzing a story; that's just spouting your opinion and pretending you're smart because you can make up phrases to describe it.

I'd be fine with TV Tropes if it were either all fun and silliness or all serious analysis. As is, they're basically half-assing everything. Yeah, the Narm page is entertaining, but it doesn't tell us about any story conventions or anything, beyond "sometimes stuff is unintentionally funny." No, really? Maybe if, instead of billing the site as some kind of grand examination of story construction and audience expectations, they should say "we're a site for people to spout off about whatever they feel like, without any basis in anything."

Does It Just Bugs Me actually add anything to the site's purpose, as described above? And I like the Just Bugs Me pages! But, as far as providing useful information about a show, they're worthless. What they do accomplish is to tell us what the tropers think about a particular show. And I'd even be fine with that, if so many troper's weren't crazy/obsessive about this stuff.

tldr; TV Tropes is pretty OK overall and I just like to whine.

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 5 2011, 04:46 PM

So, in other words, TV Tropes' main pages are exactly how I described them in my post and the front page should be changed.

When you have sixty-one pages devoted to badasses, maybe you should step back and think about whether the term even has any meaning. I'm sure you could describe any character in any work of fiction, from Shinji Ikari to Jar Jar Binks, as a badass on one of those TV Tropes pages. Does that make them a badass? No, it just means Tropers are bad at doing what the site was created for.

At least they jettisoned Fetish Fuel, so I'll give them credit for that.

Edit: A lot of tropes don't really have any meaning. Is the trope used? Add it to the page! Is it not used? Add it to Averted Trope! Is it sort of used but not really? Add it to Inverted Trope, and then to Subverted Trope just to be sure! But I guess Your Mileage May Vary. :V

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 5 2011, 05:48 PM

Quite frankly, I think you're getting bothered by some pretty silly things... I'm not going to argue the matter any further, but I do have to wonder why you posted the Fridge Brilliance page. That page is for posting things that would normally not make any sense unless you really thought about it, is it not?

I'm also wondering why you posted Getting Crap Past The Radar... That page is devoted to things that can be perceived as (and, sometimes, intentionally are) inappropriate for whatever the media it appeared in's target audience is, especially to younger audiences or PC assholes.

Posted by: Shmeckie Mar 5 2011, 05:53 PM

Yeah, Dr. O's getting worked up over some stupid shit, to be frank...

Posted by: Dr. O Mar 5 2011, 05:54 PM

Actually, you know what? The TV Tropes main page is entirely accurate. I have no idea why I thought the site was about analysis when it clearly states that the goal is to catalog things. And it does that very well.

It also catalogs Tropers' personal opinions, to the tune of entire encyclopedia sets' worth of information, which would be dandy if I actually cared about said opinions. I mean, there are probably people who find "This Troper thought about a thing he watched and realized something new. Fridge Brilliance!" to be genuinely insightful and helpful. Power to them.

I actually do think the good about TV Tropes outweighs the bad. I just like being an argumentative douche sometimes. Sorry about that, Gamer-e.

PS Shmeckie thinking I'm genuinely upset over this is a bit of an lol. Maybe I should have used more emoticons just to be clear.

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 5 2011, 06:17 PM

It's okay, dude. I could teach you a thing or two about being an argumentative douche... I nitpick constantly, am incredibly persistent, and people tend to just ignore me after a while. Just ask around!

I will agree that there are way too many pages for similar tropes. Especially badasses. Also that many of the users really suck. Well, the ones who post in Troper Tales, for the most part...

Posted by: Master of AFTER Mar 5 2011, 11:56 PM

Whatever his emotional state, I agree with Dr. O's two previous posts completely. A lot of people treat TV Tropes like a legitimate reference source for information about common conventions and trends in various forms of media, but in reality it's actually just a huge message board for nerds to relate their personal feelings and experiences disguised as an information archive. The definitions for most of the tropes are way too vague and rely on highly subjective interpretation, which results in tons of fanboys attributing tropes to things that aren't within a thousand miles of what any sensible person would associate them with. A happy-go-lucky cartoon character briefly getting mad does not constitute Hidden Evil, and someone punching a bully is not a Crowning Moment of Holy Shit Badass Motherfuckery.

If I had to distill my entire argument against the site into one statement, it would be that TV Tropes isn't about the tropes themselves nearly as much as it is about http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WikiTropes. And nobody outside of the community gives half a shit about them.

Posted by: Shmeckie Mar 6 2011, 12:45 AM

That was bullshit, and you know it. What, do you just go to every page of that site and jump right into Troper Tales? Or did you forget there's a lengthy paragraph describing the ins and outs of each trope above all those lists of examples?

And saying "nobody outside the community gives a shit about them" is dead wrong, and you should know better. How many terms has that site coined, and/or popularized? A shitload.

Aw crap, I just now remembered the Sonic Passion furries' fake chao children...

One thing I don't get is why these people have imaginary friends that suck so hard. I mean, if you're already batshit insane, wouldn't you want someone like Hazama or Dracula to be your imaginary friend? Y'know, someone who is actually cool?

Posted by: P Dot Alex Mar 14 2011, 07:51 AM

If they knew about those, I doubt that they need imaginary friends in the first place.

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 14 2011, 07:57 AM

Those guys wouldn't listen to their problems or make them feel happy. In fact, Dracula and the Smooth Criminal Hazama, from what I hear from others, would definitely not be the kind of people needed to do that without seriously derailing their characters.

These people may be demented, but they're not most fanfiction authors and shippers. I hope. Well, except for that one girl who was imagining a bunch of characters being madly in love with her... I'd still consider her to be saner than most yaoi obsessed fangirls, though.

Said lonely virgns enjoy using clinical-sounding terminology to make their situation sound either like it's not their fault, or that it's somehow their choice/the way they want things.

Oh, you mean like when Yahtzee called himself "asexual" after not having anyone to boink anymore for years because he is an unlikable fuckwit. Now I get it.

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 14 2011, 05:36 PM

It's amazing just how many people on that website claim to be asexual, but seem to get the definition fucking wrong when describing themselves on that website.

As for why people call themselves that... While I'm willing to bet that there are many people who fall under Shmeckie's definition, I think some of them just have an abnormally low libido (which isn't the same as being asexual)... Then there are those who just want to deny that they have a sex drive because they apparently hate everyone, which is incredibly stupid because being sexually attracted to someone isn't the same as liking them as a person.

Posted by: Shmeckie Mar 14 2011, 07:01 PM

I have an abnormally low libido, and I don't go comparing myself to single celled organisms. You'd have to be pretty stupid to associate "asexuallity" with "there's a lot of things I'd rather do than fuck."

But considering the Fetish Fuel crap, that "asexual" garbage is BS and we all know it.

Arrogance implies an unwarranted sense of supremacy, though. I don't think it's a negative thing to be aware of the fact that you posses skills or knowledge that sometimes give you a natural advantage or enable you to outperform others in certain situations (even many situations), but the term "arrogance" only goes so far as to imply a mistakenly perceived or exaggerated sense of superiority. There's got to be a better term to describe positive self-awareness that doesn't carry the connotations of having an undeservedly overinflated ego...

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 17 2011, 11:09 PM

Pride? Confidence?

If arrogance is being overly prideful/confident in a condescending way, then those seem like the words to use when you remove the aspect that causes you to look down on others instead of just realizing that you're (most likely) better than them.

That's what I thought at first too, but after I thought about it, it seemed fitting to describe them as two sides of the same coin. I had never thought about it that way before, so the concept was pretty interesting to me.

I don't agree with a lot of Mother Theresa's philosophies, especially those of poverty and suffering. Or of the Catholic church trying to use her name as "propaganda", of sorts. And I'm sure you also take issue with quite a few of her stances. ...But putting her in the same category as Hitler? Really?

Also, I think the point was that practicing "(performance) arrogance" means you're a leader, not a follower, so you're less likely to drink in someone ELSE'S bullshit, and more likely to stay true to what you believe in.

Anyway, let's get back on topic...

Just by my standards. Everyone's definition of evil is different, I'd say.

Posted by: Gamer-e Mar 18 2011, 06:24 PM

True, morals are subjective. I'm somewhat ashamed to say that I do not know much about Theresa, at all, except for that she was a well known nun, did some good, and was apparently sorta a bitch, at the very least.

Posted by: NiGHTS Noob Mar 18 2011, 08:10 PM

She also believed the only way to heaven was through suffering and offered the people in her houses very little care, no pain killers, and few visiting hours. Apparently both working and being a patient there was absolute hell, but if you didn't think it was good you were evil since she was Mother fucking Teresa. Some people even got kicked out of sisterhood because they couldn't stand it there.

The only reason she was even made so important was because the church needed someone to take the attention off of all the scandals that had been going on, and who better than an old lady that takes care of the sick? Who cares if she took large checks from leaders of incredibly poor nations to set up more hell holes and was a total fanatic to her religion in a very masochistic way.

So yes, by many a definition and moral set, Mother Teresa was evil, and in many others she would still be classified as "deeply disturbed", but it is still a personal decision to make of it.

Whenever I ate lunch with my friend, their own friends were usually there and I hardly ever participated in their conversations, so sitting with them wasn't really something I wanted to do unless we were going to play chess. I've also been bothered by people thinking I was depressed, but, although I do get annoyed because I'm being disturbed and someone's taking pity on me, I can at least appreciate the kind thought because it shows that these people are making an attempt at being nice.
